trouble shooting chess computers

basic trouble shooting:

SYMPTOM

POSSIBLE CAUSES

ACTION TO TAKE

1. The computer does not react, or "freezes" during your game

Batteries are not inserted properly. Install batteries or replace the exhausted old batteries.

NOTE: Open the battery door by removing the screw if applicable. Batteries must be inserted with the correct polarity and placed on top of the attached ribbon if applicable. Batteries can be removed by pulling the ribbon.

Batteries are weak or bad. Replace the batteries. See above NOTE.
Static discharge or an electrical disturbance has caused a lock-up Press into the hole marked ACL/RESET, on the bottom of each unit, if available.
Adaptor plug loose. Check if the adaptor plug sits properly in the socket, as tight as possible.
The operating voltage of the adaptor is not correct. Check if the operating voltage of the adaptor matches your local power supply.
Power Supply Check if the power supply fluctuates by more than 10% as this may cause irregular performance.
Samll adaptor plug. Check if the Samll adaptor plug that connects to the computer is fully inserted.

2. The display is dim.

Batteries are weak. Replace the batteries. See above NOTE.

3. The computer will not  play a move.

Referee Mode may be in effect. The computer only plays automatic responses to moves if Referee Mode is off.
You might play one of the higher levels, where the computer thinks for a longer time. You may interrupt the computer and force it to make a move.

4. The computer will not accept your move.

Is it your turn? Is your King in check? Will your move put your King in check? Did you move the Rook first when castling? Are you moving to an illegal square? Make sure you are familiar with the chess rules. Use TAKE BACK function it will reconstruct the last move made.
The computer is thinking. You may interrupt the computer's thinking by forcing a move.
You have entered the computer's last move incorrectly (entered the wrong from or to square). Check the displayed move. Press the correct square to complete the computer's move.

5. The computer seems to be making illegal moves.

The computer has made a special move (en passant, castling, pawn promotion). Review the chess rules. Use TAKE BACK function to reconstruct the last move.
Your board position is incorrect. Verify the board.

6. The computer is silent.

The SOUND key has been pressed to turn the sound off. Press SOUND again to turn the sound back on.
